“Can We Hear God Speak?”

Can we really, literally, hear the voice of God? Well, let’s see what the Word says. Jesus said in John 10:4, “…And when He putteth forth His own sheep, He goeth before them, and the sheep follow Him: for they know His voice.” As God’s sheep we know His voice. Some would say, “Now Brother Bill, I’ve never literally heard God’s voice.” Well, what were you listening for? Yes, sometimes you may hear God in an audible (seemingly) fashion. But this is very rare.

Usually, we hear from God in the still, small voice that is deep within our spirits. No, most of the time I don’t hear God with the ears on the sides of my head. I hear Him with my “spiritual ears.” Jesus said in Mark 4:23, “If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.” He wasn’t talking about physical ears, everyone in the crowd that day had ears on their head! Jesus was talking about hearing supernaturally, with the spirit man’s “ears.” All this month we are going to continue talking about living in the things of God on the radio program, I encourage you to listen to these special programs!

Bill Bailey Ministries was the name of Dr. Bill’s ministry before Word of Faith Ministries. This was the month we transitioned over to Word of Faith Ministries as our ministry name.

“Receiving the Word!”

You’ve heard a lot of good teaching about the fact that the Word of God is the answer to your problems and contains the power to solve your problems. (Rom. 1:16) This is sound teaching, however, many folks say, “Well, it doesn’t seem to work for me!” There are many reasons that people don’t receive the provisions that God has made available, but the most basic one is a failure to receive from God’s Word properly.

“So then, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. ” (Rom. 10:17) If the faith that you need comes from the Word of God, then you had better be receiving it properly or you will have no basic foundation to begin with. For instance, many folks believe that all they need do is listen halfheartedly to tapes of the Word of God and this will give them strong faith. Now, there’s nothing wrong with Bible tapes, don’t get me wrong! But that is not what Romans 10:17 is talking about.

If you check it out in the Greek it says, “Faith comes by continually hearing sound teaching from the Word of God with more than the mere sense of hearing, but rather, hearing and receiving the teaching.” This is a paraphrase based on the meaning of this verse. It is so important to properly receive teaching. How does the Word say we should do this?

James 1:21 tells us: “… receive with meekness the engrafted Word, which is able to save your souls. ” The word “soul” here is the Greek word “psuche,” meaning “the animal sentient principle only, the mind, will and emotions” Thayer describes it as “the seat of feelings, desires, affections and aversions,” in other words, it is the mental realm of man. An expanded paraphrase of this verse would be: “… receive the Word as a seed implanted in your human spirit (Mark 4:14, Luke 8:11) with meekness, which contains the power to save, deliver, heal and protect your mind. ” Praise the Lord! The key to this verse is to receive with meekness. What is meekness?

The word translated “meekness” in the King James literally means (according to Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words) “… that temper of the spirit in which we accept His dealings with us as good (James 1:16-17), and therefore without disputing or resisting… it is closely linked with the word ‘humility’… (it) does not fight against God and more or less struggle and contend with Him… it does not suggest weakness as the English does. ” When we think of meekness we think of “meek as a mouse”. This is not what the Greek says! To be Biblically meek is to receive from God with the right attitude. That of, “What God says is true, is true, despite what I may think, what man may think, what any denomination or theologian says!” With this attitude you will receive from God’s Word!

“Healing! Our New Birthright”

When one is born again he becomes a new creature. (2 Cor. 5:17) You are a different type of being than people that are not born again. You act differently, think differently (if you have renewed your mind to the Word, Rom. 12:1-3) and talk differently than people in the world. You must see yourself as the Word reflects you! Part of our birthright as new creatures is healing.

Did you know that all healing is from God? Now wait! Don’t go the usual route with that statement, “All healing comes from God, medical science heals; therefore God uses medical science only in these days, and supernatural healing has passed away.” NO! All true healing comes from God; medical science only treats symptoms! The origin of sickness is spiritual, therefore it has to be eliminated by spiritual means. If you just treat symptoms, the condition will reoccur!

The right of being healed supernaturally is yours if you are born again! As a matter of fact, you can lay your hands on the sick, as a believer, and get others healed, even if the sick you lay your hands on are not born again! (Mark 16:15-20) It has been said that divine healing is the dinner bell that will call the world to the Body of Christ. This is true!

Healing is a divinely granted birthright given to us to bless others with, as well as ourselves. If we walk in line with the Word of God we will be walking in Divine Health and sharing healing with the world. As a matter of fact, there are three main areas of supernatural healing: 1) Healing for the World – Mark 16:15-20; 2) Healing for the Carnally Minded Christian – James 5:14, 15: 3) Healing for the Mature Christian – Matt. 8:5-10.

We will be study these areas of healing this month on the Spirit of Faith Broadcast, as well as how healing actually works. These messages are on two ninety minute tapes that we are making available to you this month for a gift of five dollars! You may have these tapes by writing to me at (address of the ministry at that time was given.)

“Tradition: Avoid It!”

Matthew 15:6 says in the Amplified Bible, “So for the sake of your tradition (the rules handed down by your forefathers,) you have set aside the Word of God – depriving it of force and authority and making it of no effect. The King James says, “Thus have you made the commandment (or Word) of God of none effect by your tradition.” What is the point? Man’s tradition will negate the power of the Word! If you have tradition in you, the Word won’t work for you! That’s pretty plain… but that is what it boils down to! Jesus went on to say in Matthew 15, verse 7, “Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias (Isaiah 29:13) prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoreth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me. But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” If you desire to progress spiritually, you are going to have to eliminate the old traditions of men that are still lurking around in your spirit! We have all been taught things in the past that are just not in line with the truth of the Word of God.

We have to dredge these old teachings and traditions out of us; if we don’t, they will make the Word that we do receive of none effect in our lives! A lot of Christians I have met kid around about the tradition that they used to be a part of… but it is serious business! Those very things that they are kidding around about may be holding them back spiritually! We need to keep our spirits clear of all the muck of tradition! (Prob. 4:23; 2 Cor. 7:1) Cleanse yourself of tradition. Get into the truth of God’s pure Word; the Word will fill the void left by the tradition and the power of God will work to a greater degree in your life! Listen to the Spirit of Faith Broadcast this month as we teach you how to rid your spirit of these traditions that rob us of the power of God!

“Our Responsibility As Believers”

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthenth me.” (Phil. 4:13) Who can do all things? “Why, God can, of course!” some might say. And that’s true. God can do all things. But that is not what that verse we quoted says! It says that “I can do all things.” You need to see that you have the responsibility to do the things that the Word of God says that you can do. “But, Brother Bill”, some might say, “I don’t have the strength or ability to do ‘all things!'” The Word didn’t say to use your strength or ability, it said to do all things through Christ which strengthenth us. Whose strength? Jesus’! Whose ability? His! Not ours! Notice Eph. 4:10, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.” Who is to be strong? YOU! How are you to be strong? In the power of His might! Notice once again, it is your responsibility to be strong, not God’s! Too many Christians are asking God, “Why don’t You do something in my behalf?” God has already done something for you. He sent His Son, Jesus, to the cross for you. He shed His blood for you, what else does it take in your estimation?

No, now that God has provided for all things (2 Peter 1:3) it is up to us to appropriate them by acting on the Word of God. WE must do it. It is our responsibility! Let’s look at Eph. 4:22, “That ye put off concerning the former conversation (behavior, in the Greek text) the old man…” Now verse 24…”And that ye put on the new man…” Who is responsible to do the putting off and the putting on? Once again, YOU! But weren’t we made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus? (2 Cor. 5:21) Yes, we were, “created in righteousness and true holiness.” as verse 24 of Eph. 4 goes on to say.

But, we are to put on that new man! We are to conform our behavior to that new man that we now are. How? By walking in the Spirit. (Rom. 8:1-17) Lean to your spirit man, the new man that you are. Don’t lean to your understanding. (Prob. 3:5) It is your responsibility!

“What is Seed Faith?”

Just what is meant by the term “Seed Faith?” Oral Roberts made it popular some years ago, but many people have misunderstood what it means. First we must understand that, “…Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Rom. 10:17) Luke, Chapter 8, verse 11 says that the seed is the Word of God. True Bible faith, then is a result of the seed of the Word being planted in the human heart (or spirit) as Jesus described in the “Parable of the Sower”. How is this Seed planted in the spirit? Well, as we’ve already seen in Romans 10:17, and as Jesus said in Mark 4: 15, it is planted by hearing. Notice how He said it, “…where the Word is sown, but when they have heard… the Word that was sown in their hearts.” I have purposefully left out part of the verse to emphasize these parts. When they heard the Word, it was sown in their hearts.

Why is this so important? Because many Christians are attempting to live by faith without having the Word firmly planted in their spirits! God’s Word is His power! (Rom. 1:16) If you don’t have His Word planted as a seed in your spirit, there is no way you can expect His supernatural power to work for you. In fact, many Christians are constantly frustrated by their experiences. They say, “This faith stuff just doesn’t work for me!” No, this “faith stuff” won’t work for you if you don’t have God’s power at work within you. But, this is not a hopeless, helpless situation. All you need to do is get this power firmly planted in your spirit. How? By hearing, and hearing, and hearing, and hearing THE WORD!

It is a process that takes place over a period of time. Note verse 26, of Mark, Chapter 4. You may have to sleep and rise night and day before the seed springs and grows up, you may not even fully understand how this process works. Most farmers don’t fully realize how seeds grow when they plant them either, but they do expect them to grow! Plant God’s Word in your spirit. Listen to good teaching of the Word. The Seed will grow! Then you can put your faith to work by speaking words of faith out of your mouth according to Mark 11:22-25. But don’t expect Mark 11 to work until you put Mark 4 to work!

“What is… Partnership?”

What is partnership in a ministry? Our front cover graphically depicts Moses, as the young men, Aaron and Hur, hold up his hands. This event, described in the book of Exodus 17:11, 12, shows us what partnership is like. As long as Moses’ hands were raised the people of God were winning. However, when Moses became tired and lowered his hands, they lost the battle. Many times the physical aspects of the ministry are tiring. The financial area can be a burden to the minister of the Gospel. That is why many ministries beg and plead for money continually.

Let’s face it. It does require money to spread the Gospel! I know some do not like to be told that, but it is still true! Radio time does not come cheap. And I’m constantly surprised at the number of people that think that the radio stations pay us to go on the air!

Nothing could be further from the truth! Every area of this ministry, for instance, costs money, the radio outreach, the teaching tapes, our travel expenses on the seminars, even this newsletter that you’re reading, all require financial backing.

Teaching at the Spirit of Faith Seminar in December 1980

Dr. Bill teaching at the Spirit of Faith Seminar in December 1980.

And, as with Moses, one can’t do it alone. This is why the two young men supported Moses; to get the job done! Now, those of you that know how this ministry is run know that I do not make a habit of asking for money. On the contrary, I almost never mention it. But, every year, as the Lord instructs, we designate one month as Partnership Month. During this time we ask that you prayerfully consider what this ministry means to you personally and ask the Lord if He would have you become a partner with us in this ministry.

Paul called Titus his partner in 2 Corinthians 3:23. The Greek word used in this verse is “koinonos“, it means a “sharer and associate.” When one becomes a partner in a ministry, one becomes a vital part of that ministry, a sharer in all that the ministry does. As a partner in this ministry, for instance, you would be an associate and sharer with me as we put out the uncompromising Word of Faith message to this area!

I am a partner in Kenneth Copeland’s ministry. I’m very proud to be an associate and sharer with him. Every time he comes on the air I think, “I’m part of that!” And, as Brother Copeland has said many times, whatever reward that he gets for his ministry, I get as well! This is how God intended that the ministry operate. “For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye be burdened: but by an equality…” (2 Corinth. 8:13, 14) As Paul says here, in his teaching on the financial support of the ministry, he (does not mean that a very few be burdened in their support of Christian ministry, but that there be an equal sharing of the load among all that benefit from the ministry of the Word. Too long ministries have been supported by a mere handful that give a lot every month! How much better if the burden were removed from the few. and we all gave a small amount each month. The Word says that one can put a thousand to flight, two can put ten thousand to flight…(Deut. 32:30) what could we do if thousands of us join together to get this Word out to this area!

If the Lord is speaking to you to become a partner with me in Bill Bailey Ministries, I want you to know several things. First of all, if you feel pressured in any way to give by this article, don’t do it! That’s not why this article was written! If you don’t give cheerfully and without being under any pressure, you won’t be able to receive the hundred fold return that is promised to you. (2 Corinth. 9:7, Mark 10:29, 30) Second, if you are under no compulsion, but simply want to give on a monthly basis in obedience to the Holy Spirit’s urging.

“The Overcoming Life!”

“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in every place.” – 2 Corinthians 2:14

This is a very powerful verse of scripture. Let’s look at what is says to us. We should always apply the Word of God to ourselves personally, that’s how it can best change us.

First of all, what is the heart of this scripture? That we can always triumph! But Brother Bill, some might say, “It doesn’t look like I’m always triumphing!” Well, you must have not fulfilled the conditions of that verse of of scripture. If you meet the conditions, you’ll have the promise! What are the conditions? Let’s see! First, that you have knowledge of God’s Word. Why? So that you can make the very savour of His knowledge manifest by you in every place! You must have knowledge before you can make it known.

Secondly, you must praise God and give Him thanks. “Should we praise God for everything, Brother Bill?” NO! Don’t praise God for everything. To praise Him for everything would require you to praise Him for sickness and disease. God is not the Author of that mess, Satan is! Satan is the oppressor! (Acts 10:38, John 10: 10) Don’t praise God for everything, but rather give Him praise in everything. That’s the scriptural thing to do, as a matter of fact, it is His will that you praise Him in everything. (1 Thess. 5:18) Why? Because praise is strength! Besides, God is always worthy of praise!

If we would commit to do these two things we could stand on this scripture and believe God to cause us to always, continually, triumph in everything that we do. That is the overcoming life that God intends that we live. We are, indeed, more than conquerors! (Romans 8:37)

“Growing Up Spiritually”

Eph. 4:11-16 deals with the need for ministry gifts in the Body of Christ. Notice verse 14: “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about by every wind of doctrine…” And verse 15: “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things…” God’s desire for us is that we grow up spiritually the same way that we do physically. He gave the Five Fold ministry gifts of Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers to the Body of Christ to: (1) help mature the saints, (2) do the work of the ministry, (3) edify the Body of Christ. (Eph. 4:12)

These ministries will be with us until “…we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a (mature) man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” (Eph. 4:15) God wants us to mature, to grow up in Him. How do we grow spiritually? 1 Peter 2:2 says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow thereby.” We grow by the Word. Physical growth comes by eating physical food and by exercising. Spiritual growth comes by drinking the milk of the Word and chewing on the meat of the Word (Heb. 5:14) and exercising it in our lives, or doing it! (James 1:22)

Notice Heb. 5:12-14: “for when the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God and are become such as have need of milk (1 Peter 2:2) and not of strong meat (of the Word), For everyone that useth milk is unskillful in the Word of righteousness: for he is as a babe (1 Cor. 3: ) But strong meat (of the Word) belongeth to them that are of full age (mature) even those who by reason of use (or “habitual use,” as the Greek says) have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” In other words, to mature we need to habitually use the Word! Make a habit of getting into God’s Word, listen to good teaching from people in which God has placed a ministry gift, and make a commitment to speak the truth (of the Word, John 17:17) in love, and you will grow up in Him!

“Power Over Satan”

“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” (Ephesians 2:2)

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, ALL power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” (Matthew 28:18)

Notice these two scriptures. Ephesians 2:2 describes Satan as the prince of the power of the air. In Matthew 28:18 Jesus says that all power has been given to Him. This seems to be a contradiction until we look at it closely.

Satan was operating as the god (with a little “g”) of this world (II Cor.4:4) with the power he got from Adam. When Adam committed high treason against God, he gave his authority to Satan. God told Adam to have dominion. This means authority or rule (Gen.1:26-28).

Satan used Adam’s authority to ” lord it over” mankind. But Jesus, through His death, burial, and resurrection, made a show over Satan openly (Col.2:15) and gained power and authority over all, on heaven and earth. Now we, as Christians, are part of Jesus’ body.

Look at what Ephesians 1:19-23 says: “And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe (Notice: His power, to us, as Christians) according to the working of His mighty power, which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality and power and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.” (Matthew 28:18) “And hath put all things under his feet (Where are His feet? In His body!) and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the church (That’s us again!) which is His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all.”

All principality, all power, all might, all dominion, all that is under us as part of His body. Praise God! We’ve been put far above all these things. We have power over Satan in the name of Jesus. Let’s use it!
